Q: What is RFID? |
|
A:
|
RFID is a generic term for Radio Frequency Identification.
Basically it’s a more sophisticated bar code label, but you don’t
have to see it to scan it. You can learn more about RFID
here. |
|
Q: Can RFID track people? |
|
A: |
RFID is not a tracking technology like Global
Positioning Satellite (GPS). RFID is an identification technology,
like DNA or fingerprints, which are unique identifiers that every
person has, but they are not a means to track
people. What RFID can do is transmit its unique identifier
to a wireless device and trigger an alarm if a child were to be
removed from a home. Or with a long range reader, RFID can be used
to help locate missing persons. |
|
Q: Are there any privacy concerns or can
personal information fall into the wrong hands? |
|
A: |
SmartWear supports and protects privacy, not
only of our customers, but the children we help protect. We have
spent considerable time and resources designing systems and
solutions that help protect people and their privacy. Our tags and
systems contain no personal information, and can not be used to
track or monitor anyone. The license plates on your car, or the
local phone book contain more personal information and have a
greater privacy risk than any SmartWear solution.
Here’s a test: Write a 64 digit number on a
piece of paper and place it in your child’s pocket; at the end of
the day, what private or personal information can anyone have
learned about your child from that piece of paper. Their name?
Address? Where they have been or what they have done?
SmartWear was formed by Parents, Grandparents,
and Child Advocates. We are very concerned about privacy, and
we are equally concerned about Child Predators. Our mission is
to help stop child abductions and help find missing children.
SmartWear uses
proprietary, patented technology within our systems that does
not contain any personal information, and can not be read with any
"off the shelf" readers". |
|
Q: How often are children abducted and
how many are taken by convicted sex offenders? |
|
A: |
Child abductions have reached epidemic
proportions; it’s a larger problem than many realize. Most people
are shocked to learn how many children go missing every day, every
hour. Only a few high profile cases make the news. Even more
shocking is the number of Convicted Sex Offenders living in our
neighborhoods, where our children play and go to school. Look for
yourself. We use Criminal Check, one of the best places we have
found to see how many Registered Sex Offenders are in your area,
near parks and schools, most with multiple or repeat offences… and
these are only the Convicted Sex offenders. Check and see who might
be targeting your child.

Q: Where can I buy the clothes or the
tags? |
|
A: |
SmartWear does not manufacture clothes. We
license our technology to manufacturers. We expect SmartWear
enabled apparel to be available at major retailers by Spring 2006.
Please ask your favorite retailer when they will have SmartWear
enabled clothes for your children. Soon, we will post a list of
both clothing manufactures and retailers using SmartWear
Technology. We expect to make SmartWear tags available to the
public as soon as possible so anyone can tag their child’s existing
clothes. |
|
Q: How much will it cost? |
|
A: |
The SmartWear tags are very affordable, and we
design a program for every apparel manufacturer, to fit their needs
and provide technical and design support. This type of program
makes it easy for manufacturers to include the SmartWear technology
with little or no increase in cost to consumers. Soon we will make
our tags available directly to consumers, to attach to their child’s
existing apparel. A per tag price has not yet been established;
however, we expect to make retro-fit tags available at a nominal
cost. |
|
Q: How long will the tags last? |
|
A: |
SmartWear tags are washable, dryable and
require no special care be taken with the garment. SmartWear tags
should easily last the life of the garment. |
|
Q: What if I don’t want to use it? |
|
A:
|
Simple, don’t use it. SmartWear requires manufacturers to clearly
label SmartWear enabled items as containing RFID technology.
SmartWear tags are empty until activated by the parent. Until
activated, it’s like the tags are not even there. Our goal is to
conceal the tags from Child Predators, so they will never know where
a tag is, causing a significant deterrent. The parent must know,
and must activate the tags. It’s similar to a house that is wired
for electricity – most people use it, but if you choose not to,
don’t. |
